Portfolio of Tasks

Learning Outcomes:

After completing the module, you should be able to:

1) Explain the key resources available to facilitate own learning and study

2) Apply time management techniques to study planning

3) Evaluate note taking techniques

4) Extract pertinent information from at least three different academic sources

5) Make notes for a written assignment/assessment using the following note taking

techniques

Mind mapping for flowchart diagrams

Graphical organisers

6) Explain how to avoid plagiarism through correct referencing

Produce a portfolio of evidence for each of the following tasks:

Task 1

a) Produce an A4 poster in Word which explains the key resources available to assist your learning and study. Include images in your poster to support your explanations (LO1)

b) Complete a learning styles questionnaire via the link below and analyse the results you obtain about your learning preference.

c) Conduct a literature search using EBSCO, find one journal, one e-book and one website on Google which will help you to complete task two which is to investigate if animals should be used for scientific experiments.

d) Using the 3 sources you have found, and in preparation for your next task, make notes using the note taking techniques below, and evaluate the usefulness of the technique.

Task 2

Investigate if animals should be used for scientific experiments.

Using the EBSCO journal, e-book and website sources you have found, you are now required to write a summary of each source (250 words per source). You must reference each source correctly using the Harvard referencing format.

Task 3

Produce a guidance sheet for new students, which explain how to use the Harvard referencing system and how to avoid plagiarism. You will need to explain how to use citations, direct quotations and a reference list.

Task 4

Write a critical reflection of your key time management strategies for planning your study in this module. How effective were these? Comment on any improvements you would make to your time management for future modules?
