Purpose of this assignment

Learners will examine different methods of learning and understand the significance of learning, which will help them to identify their own preferred style of learning. Learners will use this information as a basis for writing an essay about learning styles, self-managed learning, and the role of lifelong learning, and aspects of time management. Finally, students will compile a personal portfolio of information about themselves, which will help them to identify and achieve their personal goals.

Scenario

There is no generic scenario/case study for this unit, but there are TWO specific tasks to be completed.

Task 1:

Write an essay, which addresses the topics of: learning styles, self-managed learning, lifelong learning and time management.

a) Identify the approaches to self-managed learning and evaluate their suitability. Identify different learning styles and examine how these can be used to help individuals understand the benefits of each.

b) Discuss how you have identified your own learning and development method. Recommend how people could learn to identify suitable methods for development and suggest how you could encourage lifelong learning in personal and professional contexts.

c) Evaluate the benefits of self managed learning to the individual and to the organisation.

d) Identify a work-based problem, at your work place or any other organisation you are familiar with and suggest possible solutions.

e) Communicate in a variety of styles and appropriate manner at various levels.

f) Evaluate and use different time management strategies and how they can help individuals to manage their time more efficiently.

Task 2:

Prepare a file of documents which relate to the one which, for the purpose of this unit, is referred to as your Personal Development Portfolio (PDP).

a) Evaluate own current skills and competencies against professional standards and organisational objectives.

b) Identify own development needs and the activities required to meet them

c) Identify the development opportunities required to meet both the current and future needs that you have identified above.

d) Devise a personal development plan to achieve your intended goal.

e) Discuss the processes and activities required to implement the development plan.

f) Undertake and document development activities as planned.

g) Critically discuss your own learning against the aims and objectives you have included in your PDP.

h) Update your PDP based on evaluation and feedback.
