Assignment 1 - Project proposal poster

ASSIGNMENT BRIEF - PROJECT PROPOSAL

You should plan and propose a suitable project to investigate a topic relevant to your work environment. Your project proposal should be undertaken following discussion with your module tutor/supervisor and your work place supervisor where appropriate.

The topic should be a realistic work project that would be of benefit to the industry. The project must also be designed in a way that makes it capable of generating suitable evidence to meet the requirements of the second assignment, the Project Report. This means that it should be a project where you can take responsibility for all aspects of the work including project management, progress reporting, and communication with other relevant professionals. It should not simply be based on work experience.

You should undertake a review of relevant literature to provide sufficient background to the topic and its relevance to industry so that you can justify your plans. This may include you investigating relevant industry sources, such as strategy documents and policies, existing guidance documents, or previous studies into similar areas.

You may wish to look at how your project fits with a current piece of legislation, EU or UK government policy, customer or interest group requirements or industry practice. Ultimately you need to justify how your project fits with industry priorities.

Presentation:

Develop a scientific poster of your proposal. It should include the following

• Introduction to the project background
• Justification of the project, with reference relevant literature and current industry priorities
• The aims and objectives of the project
• Proposed methodologies, including an assessment of risk
• Expected outcomes of the project
• The value of the project to the organisation, as a learning experience and career enhancer
• Reference list

Poster guidelines:-

• Posters should be size A2
• Orientation may be portrait or landscape
• Include images, tables and graphs, as appropriate
• References should be used to support your work. It is acceptable to use the Vancouver (Numbered) System of referencing.
• Your tutor will give guidance nearer the time about printing the poster.

Assignment 2 - Project report

ASSIGNMENT BRIEF

There are two part to this assignment:

Task 1 - Progress Report (Portfolio of Communication)

Compile a record of progress and communications about your project. Include the following:

• Professional Communications - meetings, emails, transcripts of phone calls, video clips, images etc.

• Diary of work - progress report showing your thought processes, time worked on tasks and reflection on the success/failure of elements of the project e.g. if something didn't work, briefly explain why and put forward a solution for next time.
Format:

• A blog, with embedded images, links, documents, videos, Gantt charts etc. It will be regarded as an appendix of your final report so will not contribute to the word count for this assignment. A URL to a purpose-made private blog should be provided in your submission with a password to enable the tutor to access the blog

Task 2 - Project Report

Produce a clearly written, logical report on the project that you have undertaken. You should provide sufficient detail to allow the project to be clearly understood by a naïve reader, or to be repeated by someone else.
Introduction:
What did you do?
Introduce the project - where, why, how etc. Include images and maps as necessary. Expand on this through the following:
– Explain the rationale of the project with reference to pertinent literature, the history and evaluation of the situation.
– State the overall aims and objectives.
– Analyse the potential creative improvements or solutions predicted through the project's implementation.
Methodology:
How did you do it?
• Explain how you undertook the project
– Discuss the methodology you used to implement your project, with justification of your decisions. Refer to industry standards, working practices, manufacturer's guidelines etc.
– Describe any methods used to analyse the success of your work project.

Results:
What did you achieve?
• Present a summary of the outcomes of your work project. This is likely to vary considerably between projects, depending on the nature of the work.
• Use graphs, tables and images as necessary to illustrate your findings.

Discussion:
Was your project successful?
• Critically evaluate the project outcomes in relation to your original justification, aims and objectives.
• Include proposals on how the project's findings could be used to enhance the organisation.
• Briefly discuss how the project has impacted on your learning experience and future professional development.
