Costume Production for Performing Arts
Aim
This unit aims to develop skills in costume production together with proficiency in managing a wardrobe department on a day-to-day basis.
Learning outcomes
LO1 Be able to translate designs into working costumes for performance
1.1 Analyse methods of construction and the stages needed to translate final designs to finished articles
1.2 Employ construction and alteration techniques
1.3 Work with designer, design team and the model in creating the finished article
LO2 Be able to develop and utilise skills for the production of costume designs
2.1 Demonstrate construction and finishing skills
2.2 Select appropriate materials and maintain costumes
2.3 Organise the storage and logging of wardrobe and costume products and materials
LO3 Be able to work as part of a wardrobe team
3.1 Assume a role in a wardrobe and costume-making team
3.2 Maintain effective team links with the whole production event
3.3 Work to a budget and to schedule for the selected project
LO4 Be able to manage the running of a costume wardrobe
4.1 Maintain wardrobe stock in day-to-day non-performance time operations
4.2 Demonstrate safe working practices
4.3 Catalogue wardrobe stock and assess general condition of items.
