ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT
On successful completion of this assignment, students will be expected to be able to:
Learning outcome 1: To evaluate how environmental impacts are predicted in Environmental Assessments.
Learning outcome 2: To propose and design an appropriate assessment methodology.
Learning outcome 3: Present the findings in the context of an Environmental Assessment.
Poster presentation for environmental management subject.
Topic - Waste
How will you manage waste 1) demolition 2) while construction or 3) after construction
Task: You have been appointed as a consultant to recommend methods to assess the impacts of a 36,000 capacity Football Stadium at Horsea Island, alongside a residential development, for an Environmental Statement.
You are required to assess the particular topic randomly allocated to you and to present your recommendation as an Al poster. A preliminary 15-minute oral presentation of your assessment
concept and poster layout will be available for formative feedback to incorporate in your final electronic poster submission.
In the poster and oral you are specifically required (see marking criteria) to:
Propose the significant impacts for scoping of your topic and the consultation required.
Select one main impact and appraise the available predictive techniques.
Identify the most appropriate one of these methods and plan a suitable strategy for use on the site.
Evaluate the sensitivity of the assessment technique.
Identify how the significance of the impact will be assessed.
You will be allocated overarching topic that is too big and complex for poster:
e.g. water, air, ecology
Need to define sub-topic and probably development phase (e.g. construction or operation) and possibly specific part of site (e.g. stadium, lagoon, landfill etc)
Predictive Techniques
How is the impact of your topic assessed?
How is something that has not happened predicted?
