KB7045 - Wind, Photovoltaic and Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems - Northumbria University
Investigation of Power, reliability and cost of stand-alone HRES
Learning Outcome 1: Develop a comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of a Hybrid Renewable Energy System (HRES), both at system and component levels.
Learning Outcome 2: Acquire the ability to develop a conceptual design and configuration of a standalone HRES.
Learning Outcome 3: Critically apply advanced stochastic modelling to evaluate the performance of an HRES.
Learning Outcome 4: Develop professional skills and competence in designing a standalone HRES.
Investigation of Power, reliability and cost of stand- alone HRES
Description of the Tasks:
You are tasked with designing and investigating the feasibility of stand-alone HRES:
Task 1: Configure and model a generic hybrid renewable energy system (integrating Wind- PV-Battery-Diesel generator) for:
• Power modelling and dispatch strategy;
• Reliability in power supply;
• System lifespan cost and levelised cost of energy.
Assignment Task 2: Write a MATLAB code to implement the model from Step 1 and apply it to a given site with known renewable energy resources and demand load profile data (available from eLP). You should investigate the effect of the size of each component on:
(i) the power output and reliability of the system;
(ii) the renewable penetration; and
(iii) the cost of the system.
