KB7038 - Integrated Building Information Modelling Project Assignment - Northumbria University, UK
ASSESSMENT DETAILS -
Module Learning Outcomes (MLOs) Assessed by Coursework -
1. Analyse the role of Building Information Modelling within the production management process.
2. Formulate solutions to design and production problems through a simulated project life cycle.
3. Justify and defend design or managerial choices made within t he production process of a simulated project.
4. Apply disciplinary knowledge and multi-disciplinary skill to overcome complex problems of practice and identify appropriate solutions.
5. Reflect upon learning achieved within integrated collaborative environments.
Tasks - TASK 1: Reflective Portfolio for your Integrated BIM Project. And Task 2: Academic Poster (Illustrating critical project decision).
TASK 1: The portfolio is to contain reflective evidence of:
1. The iterative cycle of the production of a BIM-enabled project design.
2. Collaborating with other professional disciplines at various stages of your projects development.
3. Your methods of problem identification, communication, and problem solving.
4. How options-analysis took place within the development of your BIM-enabled project design.
5. Your learning on integrated working in a BIM-enabled project.
TASK 1 Expected Size of Submission -
1. 3,000 equivalent words (excluding the references section).
2. Figures (diagrams, illustrations, photographs etc.) and table s are welcome but must be fully incorporated into the submission, integrated with the text and fully explained as to why they are exhibited. (250 words are counted for each figure/table used).
3. The work must form a structured and coherent whole. On the fr ont sheet of the submission, identify the total number of words used (excluding references s ection) and the number of figures/tables used.
4. Penalties for exceeding this limit: If the work exceeds the allowable word limit by 10% (i.e. 300 words) then a 10% marks penalty will apply. This 10% penalty will continually be applied for any additional text that exceed blocks of 300 words thereafter.
TASK 2: ACADEMIC POSTER
The Academic poster should illustrate the 'pathway' to a critical decision (from your allocated discipline-perspective), which was made within the project, and details the key elements in arriving at that decision. The content of the poster should also be informed by your independent research activities. Your aim is to illustrate, explain and evaluate the learning you have extracted from the execution and delivery of collaborative design solutions for the module project.
Required content of your Academic Poster:
1. In contrast with the portfolio (Task 1), this poster will instead be used to 'zoom in', explore and evaluate in detail your observations and reflections on a single key issue from your integrated BIM Project, and from your disciplinary perspective.
2. The materials offered for this part of the assessment must not be a duplication of the entire range of contents included BIM Project (Reflective Portfolio); but provides an opportunity to focus upon, and illustrate one particular key issue.
OBJECTIVE: to focus upon, and illustrate one particular key issue.
Expected Size of Submission
1. 2,000 'equivalent' words Set to an A1 size Landscape
2. Saved to a PDF file.
3. The content shall be both illustrative & textual, explaining the 'pathway' to the resolution of your critical design decision.
4. Posters must contextualise this decision in terms of its hierarchical relationship to the circumstances of previous, and following, design development decisions.
5. For this task you should also provide an additional document detailing the academic sources used for the formulation of poster. This should be provided as a references sheet that applies the Harvard referencing style.
