INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND APPLICATIONS
Brief Course Description:
This course introduces students to the concept of information systems and how they are applied in organisations to improve their processes. The course caters for operational, managerial and strategic processes associated with information systems and how they affect organisations.
The course also highlights the central role of information systems in bringing together the different components of an organisation and their role in achieving the global organisational goals.
Course Objectives:
The objectives of the course are to
• Introduce students to the concept of information systems and how they are applied in organisations
• Introduce students to the central role of information systems in improving organisational performances
• Introduce students to various components (people, hardware, software, data, etc) of information systems and how they fit into organisations

• Explain the role information systems play in organisations
• Describe the various components of information systems
• Describe the process of planning, development, deploying and managing of information systems
• Describe possible security threats to information systems and how they can be managed
