Introduction To Information Science

Brief Course Description:

This course introduces learners to the field of Information Science. It covers what constitutes a profession, its history or epistemological orientation, African information environment and contribution to the information world.

Course Objective:

To provide learners with essential background of the profession.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, learners should be able to:

1. Understand the background to library and information science

2. Explain historical developments in the field of library and information science

3. Explain the components of information systems in selected African societies

4. Explain the development of the different branches of knowledge
