Module Title: Issues in HRM
The assessment requires you to develop and demonstrate your skills and knowledge in HRM. Reflective Portfolio will be used to assess the quality of documentation produced by students in relation to their understanding of recruitment, selection and appraisal processes. Students will be paired and be asked to reflect on their own work and that of their peer. This assessment strategy will make students more confident when seeking employment and learning in the future, and in making informed judgements in work contexts. (Maximum of 5000 words).
To complete the given tasks, you will need to draw upon your experience during the course, workplace as well as any relevant work experience.
Assessment: Reflective Portfolio
As a newly appointed Human Resource trainee for (an organisation of your choice), you have been asked to review the effectiveness of the existing recruitment, selection and appraisal processes of the organisation.
You are required to produce a Reflective Portfolio which will be used for the effective recruitment and selection of candidates for a particular role.
1. As part of your portfolio you should PRODUCE documentation for the role of a product manager in the London area in your chosen organisation. The documents to include are:
a) Creative advertisement for the role of a product manager.
b) Job analysis of the same job role:
i. Job description
ii. Person specifications
c) Interview notes (Questions, comments, role, candidate name, date)
d) Job offer letter to the selected candidate
e) Design/Propose performance appraisal methods and criteria used to evaluate the performance of individuals.
f) Critically evaluate how using technology has changed the R&S process in the organisation during the last 10 years.
2) Write a short report critically evaluating the company's approach to recruitment and selection and make any necessary recommendations for the effective improvement of the processes used. As part of your conclusion, reflect on your own work and that of your peer.
3) Select one of the issues and challenges associated with Performance management and people development. Critically evaluate approaches available to resolve the issue which are in line with recognised best practice.
Structural Guidance: You will need to create the following Human Resources documentation for the role of a product manager in the London Area.
a) Creative advertisement
You will need to design and create a job advertisement for the role of a Product manager. Your advertisement should contain the following key elements:
- Job Details
- Location Details
- Contact Details
- Demonstrate research of existing job adverts currently used within magazines, newspapers or online sources such as Linkedin.
b) Job analysis of the same job role
i. Job description
ii. Person specifications
c) Interview notes (Questions, comments, role, candidate name, date)
You will need to produce at least 5 core questions relevant to the job role, these questions should provide feedback which matches with the requirements of the Job Specification / Job Description.
You will need to produce at least 3 questions which will help the interviewer identify relevant skills of the interviewee, demonstrating their capability to be successful in the position advertised.
d) Job offer letter to the successful candidate
You need to create a Job Offer Letter to be sent to the successful candidate. This letter should contain the following information:
- Candidate Details
- Job and Location Details
- Offer Details
- Response Details
- Contact Details
- Any conditions attached to the offer
e) Design/Propose performance appraisal methods and criteria used to evaluate the performance of individuals.
This task requires you to research current appraisal methods and design a Performance Appraisal Document. This document should include:
- Employee Details
- Employee Current Performance Milestones
- Employee Performance Improvements
- Developmental Milestones
- How the organisation can help the employee achieve their goals, providing a plan to for continuous development
f) Critically evaluate how using technology has changed the R&S process in the organisation during the last 10 years.
In this section, you will need to examine R&S and its application to the organisation. Utilise references, case studies and real world examples to provide critical analysis.
2) Write a short report critically evaluating the company's approach to recruitment and selection and make any necessary recommendations for the effective improvement of the processes used. As part of your conclusion, reflect on your own work and that of your peer.
In this report you will need to examine the following;
Select the organisation and briefly cover their R&S process. Critically evaluate the weaknesses and strength of the process and recommend areas of improvement. Finally, reflect on your work and that of your peer.
3) Select one of the issues and challenges associated with Performance management and people development. Critically evaluate approaches available to resolve the issue in line with recognised best practice.
