Task 1: Letter of Advice
Instructions:
You have been successful in the first round of interviews for the position of ICT Supervisor in the Khosla Care Home (KCH) in Hounslow. You have now been invited by the recruitment panel to submit a Letter of Advice on ICT related issues at KCH. This letter will be used to make the final decision on your application. The Letter of Advice must be addressed to the Chairperson of the recruitment committee. It must be written to a professional standard and observe appropriate academic conventions. It must include the following areas:
1. An evaluation and application of relevant theories of communication and how they influence various aspects of communication in a health and social care setting (AC 1.1).
ANSWER SHOULD INCLUDE: Relevant theories: humanistic, behaviourist, cognitive, psychoanalytical
M1: To gain a merit the criteria below must be met.
Assess the role of effective interpersonal interaction in health and social care with reference to theories of communication
1. Access and use standard ICT software packages to support work in health and social care (AC 3.1) ANSWER SHOULD INCLUDE: Standard ICT software: word-processing, spreadsheets, database, information retrieval, internet, intranet (if available), email, image software
2. An analysis of the benefits of using ICT in health and social care for users of services, care workers and care organisations. Especially at the KCH.(AC 3.2) ANSWER SHOULD INCLUDE: Benefits to users: meeting individual needs, administration of treatments, efficiency of administrative processes, accuracy of records, communication, maintaining independence Benefits to care workers and organisations: meeting needs of staff, business administration, efficiency, quality of service, meeting requirement of other agencies, accountability, audit
3. Analysis of how legal considerations in the use of ICT impact on health and social care with regards to KCH. (AC 3.3) ANSWER SHOULD INCLUDE Legal considerations: health and safety eg postural, visual, stress; data protection eg accuracy, security, relevance, up to date, confidentiality, consequences of breaking data protection legislation; access to records
4. Suggest ways of improving the communication process in the KCH. (AC 2.4).ANSWER SHOULD INCLUDE: Good practice: in accordance with practice and service standards, challenging discrimination, ethics, values, ensuring dignity and rights; data protection (recording, reporting, storage, security and sharing of information)
The letter should be completed within 1500-2000 words. Your work must be appropriately referenced using the Harvard System of Referencing.
Task 2: Group presentation and Learning Statement
Instructions
In groups of no more than 4 identify and select a health and social care organization where you are able to gain access to research for this task. In your group, prepare a presentation, which addresses the following areas:
1. Review the methods of dealing with inappropriate interpersonal communication between individuals in the organization (AC1.3)
ANSWER SHOULD INCLUDE: Inappropriate interpersonal communication: barriers to communication eg inappropriate language, incongruent messages, misinterpretation, breach of confidentiality, breach of trust, invasion of privacy, power, threat, abuse; influences on individuals eg self-concept, self- esteem, self-image, ideal self, prejudice, stereotyping, values and beliefs, stress
2. Explanation of how legislation, charters and codes of practice impact the communication process in the organization.(AC 2.2)
ANSWER SHOULD INCLUDE: Legislation, charters and codes of practice: national, European, United Nations (UN) as appropriate eg equality, diversity, discrimination, confidentiality and sharing information
3. Analysis of the use of strategies to support users with specific communication needs in the organization. (AC1.4)
ANSWER SHOULD INCLUDE: Supporting specific communication needs: alternative language; language aids eg Braille, signing, Makaton; advocacy, interpretation, translation; environmental conditions, technological aids; processes for accessing additional support Maintaining confidentiality: privacy, confidentiality, disclosure, protection of individuals, rights and responsibilities

Critically evaluate strategies used in health and social care environments to overcome barriers to effective communication and interpersonal relationships
4. Analysis of the effectiveness of organizational system and policies in promoting good practice in communication. (AC 2.3)

5. Your group must begin and prepare a more than 50% of the presentation in class. This will be observed and assessed to demonstrate your skill using ICT - Word, PPT. (AC1.2) ANSWER SHOULD INCLUDE: Techniques and purposes: techniques eg written, listening, verbal, non-verbal; purposes eg record keeping, giving information, challenging poor practice, educating, decision making, negotiating, advocacy, counselling, mentoring
Once you have completed your presentation, prepare a 750-word individual learning statement. This statement must be accompanied by the PPT for final submission.
Task 3: Poster Design
Assessment Criteria covered in this task: 2.1
ANSWER SHOULD INCLUDE: Values and culture: factors eg beliefs, age, sex, sexuality, ethnicity, gender, education, social class
Instructions: Create a 3A-sized poster, which explain, "How the communication process is influenced by values and cultural factors".
