Assignment Question - Journal Article Analysis

Individual essay - In this assignment, you will summarise and evaluate a journal article.

The article is: F. A. and V. R. (2007) 'The ECB Monetary Policy: Choices and Challenges', Journal of Policy Modelling, 29:181-194.

1. Start with a brief introduction.

2. Read the article carefully and write a brief summary of the journal article. In this case, remember your tone must be professional and formal. You need to write a well-developed paragraph/s (remember your word count) The summary must include the following information:

- Purpose of the article and main question/s addressed by the author/s.

- The method used by the authors to answer the question/s

- Date sources - if relevant.

- Findings of the article - focus on the implications of the main questions.

- Policy implications and further research.

3. The most important part of the assignment. Evaluate the journal article. You are expected to provide sufficient evidence to support or not the article and the question/s. You will need to clearly explain your reasoning. This part might include the following:

- Discuss the ideas, arguments and findings, which are sensible or not to you. To discuss you need to do some research.

- Take a further step - be more critical. Try to find gaps - if any - in the argument of the article. Raise your own question/s to support your own argument. Remember you need to do research i.e. read other articles/textbooks/newspapers, etc.

- Or, provide a piece of evidence from the article, which seems most convincing to you. If convincing, you need to explain why.

Remember to do your own research to support your points and find examples to support your argument.

- How does the article compare with other articles with respect to the topic in question? Find examples.

4. Conclusion - in your conclusion, explain what you understand better with respect to, for example, ECB or other issues from the article. Discuss the possibilities of further research with respect to the topic.

The report focuses on the monetary policy of the European Central Bank. By reading this article, the monetary policy of the European Central Bank will be analyzed and further understood. The purpose of this report is to evaluate this article. In the process of analyzing this article, the author will put forward some of his own arguments and provide sufficient evidence to support them, and may use qualitative and quantitative methods to supplement the explanations.
