Unit 22 Electronic Circuits & Devices - Higher National Diploma in Engineering

Digital Circuits & Subsystems

Learning Outcome 1: Determine the operational characteristics of amplifier circuits.
Learning Outcome 2: Investigate the types and effects of feedback on an amplifier's performance.

You are a newly appointed electronic engineer of ABC company. On your first day you realised that the technicians in the company use amplifiers that are not ideal for the given application.
Your manager wants you to conduct two training sessions for the technicians.

The first session is to brief them about the types of amplifiers. As part of this training you are expected to document,
• A description of the types of amplifiers available and their applications.
• Examine the different performance characteristics of types of amplifier.
• Apply practical tests (for simple circuits) using lab equipment and virtual tests (for complex circuits) using simulation on an amplifier's performance and explain and assess the findings.

The second session is to brief them about the types and effects of feedback on amplifiers. As part of this training you are expected to document,
• The inspection of the types of feedback available and their effect on the amplifier's performance.
• Description of a circuit which employs negative feedback
• Apply practical tests (for simple circuits) using lab equipment and virtual tests (for complex circuits) using simulation to show the effect of feedback on an amplifier's performance and analyse and evaluate the findings.
