Business Analytics
Assessment - MIS Development and Report
Task 1: SAS-based MIS
You are required to demonstrate how you can apply what you are learning, by constructing a small data analysis system. Search for and download a dataset that is of interest to you. Please feel free to discuss it with your tutor before you use it. The dataset needs to be sizeable both in terms of the number of records (depth - a few thousand records) and the number of dimensions (variables - width). You are required to design an analysis system and conduct your analysis using SAS. You will be using appropriate SAS procedures and conducting advanced analytics to uncover trends and patterns and present the results through the developed system.
This will be a live demonstration, so your system is expected to run with full automation. A lack of automation will reduce your grades. The results of your analysis will be assessed based on the following.
Automation
MIS Design
Use of Procedures
Interpretation of Results
Presentation
The demonstration of the MIS will take place in class on 15 and 17 May 2023. You will need to demonstrate that your code is working in a lab session:
Demonstration 1:[Labs: MS214 and MS215.]
Demonstration 2:[Labs: MS214 and MS215.]
What you are expected to submit: For this step, the code and necessary supplementary files (if applicable) and the data set must be submitted as a zip file on 22 May 2023. Should you have multiple files to submit, then the name of the file must be clear.
Task 2: Story Telling Report
You will analyse the same dataset used in Task 1. You are required to understand the dataset and present useful statistical inferences about the raw data. You can choose any analytics environment for this task other than SAS (Tableau, Power BI, etc).
The purpose of "Telling a Story" here implies you to explain the nature of the data, what inferences you are looking for and the insights extracted, and how they can be useful.
Note:
The telling story includes the report of tasks 1 &2.
The maximum number of words should not be more than 4000.
The key aspects that must be addressed in the specification report are, Introduction (aim, objectives, description of the dataset, etc); Analysis design (a UML diagram of your analytics design. The diagram should clearly describe the phases of analytics (e.g., importing data, data cleansing, complex and critical analytics, etc.); The Analytics section, details the story of your analytics, along with extending the analytics phases. Even, you can consider a critical comparison (the tool's efficiency, user-friendliness, scalability for large datasets, ease of use, data visualization capabilities, etc.) between the two analytics platform, essentially the SAS and your chosen tool; Conclusion (concludes the report).
You must include screenshots of your analysis from the chosen environment and should provide your insights and inferences of your analysis in your report. This report is due on 22nd May 2023, in Turnitin. The assessment will be based on the following.
