Epidemiology Assignment -
The purpose of this summative assessment is to allow you to demonstrate knowledge and skills in statistical analysis, interpretation and scientific presentation of results and findings. You will need to answer all questions listed below.
Assessment Questions -
1. Explore baseline demographical (Age and BMI), physical function (walking, ascend/descend stairs, STS tests) and self-reported Physical Activity outcomes. Clearly state the testable hypotheses for comparing baseline outcomes between the intervention groups and justify the choice of statistical analysis to be undertaken. You can insert relevant sections from the SPSS output that support your decisions. For the purposes of this task, use the SPSS database entitled: Assignment database for D4147.
2. Using appropriate statistical tests, address all research hypotheses generated in Q1 and clearly summarise in a table the findings from the baseline comparisons. For the purposes of this task, use the SPSS database entitled: Assignment database for D4147.
3. Test the research hypothesis that participation in any type of exercise for a period of 6 months, enhances peak exercise tolerance (VO2peak, peak exercise duration and peak power output achieved), for people with chronic cardiometabolic conditions. Also, determine the timing of optimal adaptations to exercise training. For the purposes of this task use the SPSS database entitled: Assignment database for D4147.
i) Clearly state all testable hypotheses and explain the choice of statistical tests.
ii) Clearly and accurately describe the findings of all statistical analyses in text.
4. Test the research hypothesis that participation in High Intensity Interval Exercise (HIIT) over a 6 month period, is superior to moderate intensity continuous exercise (MICE), for peak exercise capacity (VO2peak, peak exercise duration and peak power output achieved) in people with chronic cardiometabolic conditions. For the purposes of this task use the SPSS database entitled: Assignment database for D4147.
i) Clearly state all testable hypotheses and explain the choice of statistical tests.
ii) Clearly and accurately describe the findings of all statistical analyses in text.
5. Summarise findings and results from Q4 using appropriate and clearly annotated graphs and tables.
