3. Assess some managerial and operational challenges and opportunities that can impact on the effectiveness of organisations and programming
4. Critically examine and research one aspect of the work/function of an organisation, NGOs, agency, evaluating the effectiveness of aims, initiatives and specific projects, and making recommendations to improve outputs.
Task:
You are to critically examine an aspect of the work or function of any one development or humanitarian organisation /agency. Your critical examination is to take into account the context of the operation of that organisation/agency, and the objectives, if any, that the organisation/agency has set for itself. You are, furthermore, to select a specific project of that organisation/agency and to evaluate the initiatives that have been undertaken, as well as to offer recommendations as to how the resulting outcomes might have been improved.
This should be presented as a narrated PowerPoint (recorded) presentation, based on self-guided research, and the accompanying presentation slides should be uploaded onto the Turnitin link on the Moodle page. Speaker's notes should be included on separate slides and added at the end.
Instructions:
- Your PowerPoint presentation should consist of a summary of your analysis and evaluation of your chosen case study, and also your recommendation proposals.
- You should draw on relevant policy and practice, and academic theory as necessary.
- The target number of PowerPoint slides for your presentation is 15 (including introduction).
- In order to counteract any practice of students submitting work that is not entirely their own, all submission will be analysed via Turnitin software and subject to analysis by subject experts. All students must be able to present a full draft prior to any proof reader corrections. Course/Module teams may request an oral viva for students where they suspect the work submitted is not entirely their own.
- Your presentation must cite appropriate sources using the Harvard method. The reference list should be on one or more slides at the conclusion of your PowerPoint presentation. These slides will not be included as a part of the target number of slides for your presentation.
Examples of organisations which could be considered include Tear Fund, Oxfam, CORD, Islamic Relief, Practical Action, Concern Universal as well as multi-lateral agencies.
Notes: You are expected to use the CUHarvard referencing format.
One aspect of agency/NGO - a project the NGO implemented and there were some shortcomings, so you have to suggest how it could be more better.
First few slides should be about the - background of the organisation - its purpose, vision and general context of the agency/NGO
Majority of slides should be on the project
Critique, recommendations and how the work might have been improved, pitfalls, methodologies, strengths, weaknesses, (like point No-1)
