Assignment Task Management in IT Case Study:
Hull Royal is large regional hospitals in Manchester (Fictitious Name) with over 8000 employees and 1100 beds. In a major reorganisation, the hospital has been transformed from a functional structure into a patient-oriented one, where medical specialists have a central position. 60 % of employees clustered around the primary processes (diagnosis, treatment, care). In addition, the organisation consists of a medical technical centre (25 %) and a department of general support facilities. The medical departments are organised by geographical location.
The IT infrastructure management was based around legacy systems. A range of separate systems in the various parts of the hospital used stand-alone or communicated through gateways. To allow a better integration of peripheral systems, it was decided to move to a more open IT infrastructure management system.
The plan is to fully refurbish Hull Royal entire IT infrastructure throughout the centre for; appointment management, clinic, and practice management (inpatient and outpatient), billing management, receptions, and surgery rooms to ensure doctors and staff all have access to the latest technology to support their duties and uses entirely online. This will include new hardware, software, and network infrastructure as proper as well as all area refurbishment, furniture, all necessary peripherals, and a well- staffed IT support desk. The centre will introduce a data centre to support the medical centre, local practices, partner hospitals and patients.
You are the project manager for this project, starting the planning work at around summer time with a view to the major disruptive works being carried out. The project sponsor is the Hull Royal hospitals (Fictitious Name).
