Group Design Project

Reflective Report

Project: Develop a new product or improve an existing product of your choice that is feasible and viable.

Report must be clearly drafted, written in good English style, following a logical structure and include Table of Content, and references. Citations must be incorporated throughout the report. Total length of the report is 3000 words +/- 10%. In your report you must consider and cover the following key areas:

Overall project Description
Your contribution
Reflection on team member contribution
Reflection on project success (or failure) and the underlying reasons
Conclusions and lessons learned
References
Appendices

Overall Project description

1: Introduction/Explanation

You need to clearly explain the product and why you chose it, who will benefit from it, etc. If your chosen product already exists in the market, you must explain how you intend to improve it.

2: Need and Demand
If you have chosen to develop a product that does not exist, you need to prove/justify the need for the product and establish the demand for it. This could be through primary and/or secondary research methods.
If the product already exists, it is possible to conclude, to a certain extent, that the need is established but you must explain the extent of potential demand especially after you introduce your intended design improvements.

3: Market Justification
You need to justify your claims through market research and be able to establish justifiable potential demand. It is important to note that these must be backed up by research and not just arbitrary claims.

4: Technical viability
Once the need, demand and markets are established, teams must prove their claims by completing the design process and demonstrate feasibility of their proposed design. This must be accompanied by various modelling techniques as required, including but not limited to: mathematical modelling, CAD design (2d & 3D) animation, sketches, 3D printed model, etc., as appropriate.

5: Commercial viability
You must establish the commercial viability by calculating the total cost of operations from production, sales, marketing, operations, etc. the commercial viability should at least have 12 months cashflow and Profit & loss projections, pricing strategy, etc.

6: Operational Plans
You must describe how you intend to enter the market (market entry strategy) and how you intend to organise your company to ensure its success. This must include risk assessment, strategic analysis, etc.

B: Your Contribution
After describing the project, you must provide a detailed explanation of what you did as part of the team. This includes your role and the detailed description of any action you took, and the details of the outputs you produced.

C: Reflection on team member contribution
At this section you must highlight the ideas discussed by the team including initiators of each idea. You must also highlight what was the reason for choosing the subject of the project. Furthermore, you need to rate the contribution of each member of the team highlighting the relevant outcomes of each member's efforts.

D: Reflection on project success (or failure) and the underlying reasons
You must reflect on how the team performed and rate the success of the project and underline the contributing factors to its success (or failure)

E: Conclusions and lessons learned
Describe the lessons you have learned and if you were to develop a product in the commercial world what will you do differently, if any.

F: References
List of all references utilised

G: Appendices
Appendices should contain all details whose incorporation in the main body is not necessary but add value in giving context to the project and its execution.
