Assignment - Finance for Managers
You first need to choose a company for the analysis.
You need to access the companies' financial statements. A simplified version is available via the database Amadeus which is available to you after signing in with your university details. Search for Amadeus in the university catalogue
search for Amadeus
and choose the Amadeus database, online access
Then click onResource available at amadeus
Log in using your university details
Then enter your company name.
Select the worksheet view at the top of the Global standard format section, you can then open the file in excel.
Please compute the ratios yourself rather use than the ones provided. Do not worry if yours are different.
Most of the data you will need will be provided in the income statement and statement of financial position in the accounts you have retrieved. Other data you need, such as end of year market price, number of shares outstanding etc, is accessed by clicking on stock data and then Annual stock data.
The data you require (including an explanation of the item name if it is different from what we have used in lectures) is as follows
Operating profit (EBIT) (operating P/L)
Gross profit
Cost of goods sold
Operating Revenue (turnover)
Financial expenses (interest)
Net profit (P/L for period, net income)
Shareholders funds (capital and reserves)
Stock (inventory)
Debtors (accounts receivable)
Creditors (accounts payable)
Long term debt (do not use non-current liabilities)
Market price
Number of shares outstanding
Market capitalisation
Please note that the format often shows the total at the top with the breakdown below
Required
For shareholder funds you should just use the top figure ie €630,007 (000s). Docheck the units the figures are given in as they can differ. Also note that the financial statements are given in € but the annual stock data is given in £ so you need to find the conversion rate on the relevant dates and convert one of them if they are in different currencies.

Calculating appropriate accounting ratios prepare a report analysing the performance of and comparing the performance of the companyover the last 2 years under the following headings:
a) Profitability,
b) Liquidity,
c) Working capital management,
d) Solvency & risk,
e) Shareholder return,
f) Overall financial performance.
