Scenario:

You are applying for a position in a company. In the first test, the interview team requires you to clarify your understanding,your strengths, your weaknesses of learning ability in a report of around 5 – 10 pages. Basing on your report, the company will decide whether you are suitable to the position and they accept your application or not.

Aim of the assignment   

This assignment satisfies the following learning outcomes:

1.3. Evaluate the benefits of self-managed learning to the individual and organization

Specific requirements

Task 1: Evaluate approaches to self-managed learning:

- Describe Kolb’s experimental learning cycles and main approaches to learning.

- Clarify advantages and disadvantages of each approach

Task 1 produces evidence for assessment criterion 1.1

Task 2: Propose ways in which lifelong learning in personal and professional contexts should be encouraged

- Using Honey and Mumford’s theory framework to describe 4 main types of learning.Basing on their definition and characteristics, please propose which career is suitable to each type of learning.

- Describe the meaning of continuing professional development. Propose ways to enhance personal performance and career progression basing on 4 main types of learning. For example, which ways Activist/Reflector/Theorist/Pragmatist should implement to enhance his/her personal performance and career progression.

Task 2 produces evidence for assessment criterion 1.2

Task 3: Evaluate the benefits of self-managed learning to the individual and organization

- Basing on your knowledge, your experience and information stated in the course book, give out some benefits of self-managed learning to the individual and organization. For example, individuals can get better job opportunities; organizations can increase their competitive advantages by creating a highly skillful and knowledgeable team...

Task 3 produces evidence for assessment criterion 1.3

To achieve a distinction grade, the evidence must show that, in addition to the pass and merit criteria; the learner is able to achieve at least one among sub criteria. In specific:

D 1. Use critical reflection to evaluate own work and justify valid conclusion:

- Realistic improvements have been proposed against defined characteristics for success. In specific, basing on approaches to learning theory, you must point out strengths and weaknesses of Vietnamese students in each approach, and you must suggest at least one way to improve the situation in the trend of globalization.

- Self criticism approach has taken place. In specific, basing on 4 main types of learning, you must propose the most suitable type for Vietnamese students and education conditions with typical examples.

- Conclusions have been arrived at through synthesis of ideas and have been justified.

D 2. Take responsibility for managing and organizing activities. In particular, your work must show that:

- Autonomy or independence has been demonstrated. Your assignment proves your own work through Turn-it-in software

- Substantial activities, projects or investigations have been planned, managed and organized. In your assignment, there have been a number of interviews or surveys, you must state out how many people surveyed/interviewed, and who they are.

D 3. Demonstrate convergent/ lateral/ Creative thinking:

- Convergent and lateral thinking have been applied. In specific, you must propose a suitable learning model for Vietnamese students.

- Self evaluation has taken place based on strong evidence (by your own ideas or judgments)

- Innovation and creative thought have been applied. In specific, you must give out unique solutions to enhance personal performance and career progression.
