ASSIGNMENT - UNDERSTANDING PRINCIPLES OF FOREST RECREATION
Task A - Forest Recreation activities
Assessment criteria -
1.1 Explain the impact on society of forest recreation provision.
1.2 Evaluate forest recreation activities.
1.3 Discuss factors that influence the use of forests for recreation.
1.4 Discuss potential problems and constraints to forest recreation provision.
Assessment guidance - To complete task A the learner is required to deliver a presentation on forest recreation. The learner research forest recreation and include the following elements of forest recreation with examples listed to actual forest recreation projects and best practice:
- An explanation of the social, economic and environmental impacts on society of forest recreation activities.
- An evaluation of different recreation activities.
- A discussion of factors that influence the use of forests for recreation.
- The problems encountered with providing forest recreation.
The presentation should include facts and figures where relevant and the use of images and illustrate should be encouraged to make the presentation attractive and informative.
Task B - Forest recreation planning, development and promotion
Assessment criteria
2.1 Describe appropriate design considerations to promote the use of forests for recreation.
2.2 Discuss physical and financial considerations when planning forest recreation.
2.3 Summarise current legislation relevant to forest recreation.
2.4 Evaluate methods of promoting forest recreation methods.
Assessment guidance - To complete task B the learner is required to produce a report covering the following elements to be considered when planning the provision of forest recreation.
- The design considerations of sites.
- The different physical and financial considerations affecting the planning of forest recreation provision.
- Legislation affecting forest recreation.
- The opportunity for promotion of new forest recreation ventures and their effectiveness in encouraging the recreational use of forests.
Task C - Plan and promote recreational activities
Assessment criteria
3.1 Select appropriate forest recreational activities for a given situation.
3.2 Prepare a plan to deliver forest recreational provision.
3.3 Produce promotional material for recreational provision.
Assessment guidance - To complete task C the learner is required to select appropriate forest recreational activities for a given site and prepare a plan to deliver the provision. The learner needs to visit/research the given site and decide, with reference to design, physical and financial considerations, the most appropriate recreational activities for the site. The learner must also create a plan for obtaining resources and providing the selected forest recreational activities.
