Assignment Title - Passive RC Filters
1. Low Pass Filter - The low pass filter allows only frequencies of lower order to pass through them. They filter out the high frequencies and are used in audio systems to filter out noise. The passive low-pass filter is made up of a resistor in series with a capacitor and the output is taken across the capacitor.
1. Run the AC Sweep using Vac for the input voltage (10V) and plot the frequency response and phase shift.
(Simulation settings -> AC sweep -> logarithmic -> from 100Hz to 10kHz, point/decade =1000)
2. Calculate the theoretical cut-off frequency and compare with the simulation value.
3. Use Vsin (Amplitude 10V, Frequency 100 Hz) and show the input and output waveforms.
(Simulation settings -> Time Domain -> Run to Time = 100ms, Maximum step-size = 10u)
4. Use Vsin (Amplitude 10V, Frequency 10 kHz) and show the input and output waveforms.
(Simulation settings -> Time Domain -> Run to Time = 1ms, Maximum step-size = 10u)
2. High Pass Filter - The high pass filter allows only frequencies of higher order to pass through them and filter out the low frequencies. They are used in audio systems, for AC coupling and in digital image processing. The passive high-pass filter is made up of a resistor in series with a capacitor and the output is taken across the resistor.
5. Run the AC Sweep using Vac for the input voltage (10V) and plot the frequency response and phase shift.
(Simulation settings -> AC sweep -> logarithmic -> from 100Hz to 10kHz, point/decade =1000)
6. Calculate the theoretical cut-off frequency and compare with the simulation value.
7. Use Vsin (Amplitude 10V, Frequency 100 Hz) and show the input and output waveforms.
(Simulation settings -> Time Domain -> Run to Time = 100ms, Maximum step-size = 10u)
8. Use Vsin (Amplitude 10V, Frequency 10 kHz) and show the input and output waveforms.
(Simulation settings -> Time Domain -> Run to Time = 1ms, Maximum step-size = 10u).
