Proposed Title of Project - Post Children War in the UK
Research report that synthesises and critically appraises different aspects of disciplinary knowledge from a theoretical or policy or practice perspective.
Aims -
- To plan a negotiated self-managed research project.
- To synthesise and appraise the ethical issues involved in researching children, young people, education and family.
- To undertake and evaluate a negotiated self-managed research project.
- To produce a final research report that synthesises and critically appraises different aspects of disciplinary knowledge from a theoretical, policy or practice perspective.
Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this course a student will be able to:
1. Research, investigate and select a research topic and write a research proposal.
2. Identify ethical boundaries involved in researching children, young people, education and family
3. To investigate and research within the ethical guidelines of the discipline and university
4. Investigate and appraise an area of academic and/or professional interest with a view to development, change or critical reflection
5. Monitor, review and evaluate the progress of an investigation
6. Use data collected from the investigation to reflect on, and/or develop an area of practice
7. Demonstrate the ability to engage with complex levels of critical reading and writing practices
8. To act autonomously with limited supervision within agreed guidelines and produce a research report
Indicative Content -
- Initial taught sessions to enable students to plan the project
- Workshops throughout the course on critical thinking and writing, methodology, ethics, writing a literature review and analysing data
- Tutorials with designated supervisor
Learning and Teaching Activities -
This course will begin with taught sessions to aid planning the project. From this point, teaching and learning will take place through the process of individual investigation and study with appropriate tutorial support and attendance at specialised workshops aimed to help the students write up their reports.
